Matt Brys, to say that he’s just a DJ for Extreme Production is an understatement. This guys is funny, energetic, stylish and knows what music to play to get those buns of the chair and on to the dance floor. When Eric of Acti-Video recommended that I interview this guy I jumped at the chance, and after this interview you will understand why Matt and the Extreme Production team is in such high demand in the Sacramento Wedding Scene.
- Who is Extreme Productions? A complete event entertainment and production company. DJ, MC, Lighting, Staging, Live Music, Production, Event Management…. We make your event fun!
- What does Extreme Productions bring to it’s customers? Customer Service is first and foremost. We are nothing without our customers J We pride ourselves on providing exceptional customer service coupled with award winning production design and event entertainment.
- When did you know you wanted to be a DJ? LOL! I used to call friends on the phone in 4th and 5th grade and pretend to do a radio show with my little boombox over the phone. Ya. I am a geek J Ohhh and imagine that with a slight mullet haircut (which I must have thought was the coolest thing ever). It was a sight to behold! LOL!
- Where did you train for this discipline? I started in radio in Sacramento when I was 16. I began as an intern and 3 months later (and a little bit of luck) I had my own show. It was cool to be the youngest DJ in Sacramento at the time. Kind of a culture shock too! On the basic level, anyone can be a “DJ”. That’s the beauty of this business. You can go out today, pick up some gear and begin practicing, listening, rehearsing and discovering on your own. The art of our industry is to fine tune those skills over years of practice. A great DJ knows how to create a moment, how to play just the right song at the right moment to create a reaction. That’s something that takes a while to learn.
- When did you start your business? Extreme Productions was started in 1994.
- Does Extreme Productions only provide music? That’s funny. We actually have a tagline on our website that says “It’s more than just music…” It’s true to! We work with our clients to create an “experience” at their event. It’s creating scenes within their event, creating the soundtrack for their event and coupling that with nice segues and entertainment. It’s more than just showing up and “playing music.” It’s understanding the clients needs, concerns and vision and creating an event that will WOW them!
- What is your favorite thing about being in this business? The people. Hands down. There are some really neat, passionate and caring people in this business! If it wasn’t for these people, I would not enjoy what we do nearly as much.
- What song best describe you? LOL! Depends on the moment of the day! Right now… it’s “Tell Me About It” by Joss Stone. Ask me in 5 minutes… I might give you a Clapton tune.
- What would a party be like in your home? It runs the gammit. I dig cooking, wine and cocktail parties. I LOVE energy and laughter and fun.
- What questions should a Bride in Groom ask when interviewing a DJ for their wedding? My biggest piece of advice… interview the actual DJ who would be doing your event. Insure that their personality meshes well with yours. Insure they will be a good representative for you and your event. Insure they will blend well with your guests. Ask a TON of questions and go with your gut instinct.
- Where do you draw your inspiration from? EVERYWHERE. Art. TV. A beautiful picture from an event. Colors. I love love love colors! Musically… I dig just about everything…
- What makes you dance? A good bass line and a rock star beat.
- Does Extreme Productions have a style? Down to earth, approachable, passionate and fun. We want to be the person in the room that you WANT to have in the room… while making sure we are NOT the star of the show. It’s a balance.
- A word that best describes Extreme Productions? Driven.
- Do you have a team, how are they? Amazing! Seriously… Extreme Productions IS the people who make up this company. They are the tireless actors, DJs, MCS, Lighting designers, Stage setters, audio and visual geniuses who go out of their way to make sure an event is a success. Extreme Productions would not be what it is without them!
- Why should they hire Extreme Productions? If you are looking for a customized event that is built from the ground up around your personality, style, taste, vision, needs and wants… look no further.
- What song are you sick off hearing? LOL! Do you have an hour? We just launched an ad campaign that says “Tired of hearing the YMCA… we are too.” LOL we will play whatever our clients want to hear (even the YMCA if they desperately need it) but we really try to stay away from the cheese. You can have a good time WITHOUT the chicken dance, YMCA or Macarena. Seriously. It can be done J
- What event are you most proud off? We love our weddings. We love being a part of those moments that cannot be replicated and are spontaneous and full of emotion. There is nothing better than the sound of spontaneous laughter or a warm and sincere tear.
- What is the most un-traditional thing that Extreme Production has done at a wedding? Well… we have had some interesting requests over the years. We have introduced a bride to a wedding ceremony atop of a 30’ front loader Tractor. We have landed helicopters for a grand farewell. We have done surprise weddings (where guests think they are coming to a party… and a wedding just happens…).
- Where or how can they find more about Extreme Productions? Our website is always new and available 24/7 at extremeprodjs.com. We always LOVE to hear from you at 916 773 4329
- Who do you recommend that I interview next? Gosh… SO MANY! Just talked with Katie from Ambience Floral, Harmony from Citizen Hotel and Debra from Tres Fabu Event Planning and Fearon from Arden Hills Resort Club and Spa about an hour ago. Call any of those ladies to start…. J Give them a hug for me J
